Handmade miniature instrument – Fiddle of Plock – Polish folk stringed bowed instrument
A miniature model of a 6-string, traditional stringed Polish instrument, dating back to 15th C. Handmade from hardwood. The original instrument was discovered in an archaeological site in Płock, Poland, in 1985, and served reconstruction purposes. Following the historical research work by Prof. Ewa Dahlig-Turek, Mr Andrzej Kuczkowski, a violin maker from Warsaw, crafted the instrument for Maria Pomianowska, the first modern artist in the world to play the reconstructed instrument. She also developed a way of playing and tuning the fiddle.
This miniature instrument is dedicated to these three individuals, thanks to whom the amazing sound and looks of the fiddle of Płock can be still appreciated.
